English Department

  1. Our  Mission is:

  • to help students become independent learners of English.

  • to help students develop their  listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in order to communication well in English.

  • to enhance the students’ language competence in using English in further studies, in future work and in real life situations.

  1. English Opportunities during the Regular School Day:

  • Students are able to learn English in regular English classes and through the school English curriculum which is especially written for our students. There are also drama lessons and reading classes. The reading classes are for S1 and S2 students and are taught in small groups where students can use English to interact with each other.  These students are assessed at the beginning of the school year so that they are reading at an appropriate level. Another opportunity is that once a week, the Morning Prayer is done in English with students participating.

  • Extra-curricular activities and courses are offered to give additional opportunities to our students to practice their English. The following activities are available.

English Fun Day – A day when the hall is full of English games and activities

       The Debating Team

English Ambassadors – Students who promote English in the school

Writing Courses for the advanced students

       A Phonics Class

       Junior Form Remedial Classes.

       Speech Festival

       Story Reading Competition

  1. The Presence of Native English Speaker.

  • Our school has a NET teacher who teaches regular classes.

  • Concordia Lutheran School is affiliated with the Lutheran Church – Hong Kong Synod. The result of this is that we have the opportunity to have English speaking missionaries in our school on a regular basis.

  • In addition, once a year a team of missionaries come to Concordia Lutheran from the U.S.A. to run the International Interface Programme, with our school teachers for approximately one week. Having these extra people on campus gives the students more people with whom  to be able to speak in English.

  • Concordia sends a group of students to the United States every other year during the summer for ten days. The students must speak in English and get to experience the different culture, foods and sites.
